This project for me has been the most enjoyable of the year, there has been a lot of freedom and so many possible outcomes from it. I feel this project has helped me develop as an illustrator, and also it has given me a platform to work from to get myself started with everything. For example now I have a website with an online portfolio for people to view, and also a mock-up business card that I will produce in the future for people to contact me. I also now have a logo for people to know me by and a stamp to bring in even more individuality to my prints I can create in the future, and is also a great way to be more personal when sending out things in the mail that may make a client/customer want to come back to me for more illustrations in the future.
The Cacotopia brief was great as I was able to put my own style and vision of how Cacotopia would be and I am excited at the prospect of my work being viewed for this, and also when I got this printed it was the first time I had used Service Point in Manchester, which gave a good quality print out that I will use in the future when printing posters/zines for print fairs.
Putting together the zine with the theme Mickey Mouse’s glass eye was also fun as it allowed me to do what I enjoy most as an illustrator, drawing cartoon characters. I feel my zine’s came out very well and look so effective for something that is so easy to create.
Again with the postcard design I was able to work with a cartoon character from The Simpsons, Mr Burns. Drawing Mr Burns was fun as he is very easy to work with as he has very recognisable characteristics that are easily distorted into exciting new illustrative ways.
Overall I have thoroughly enjoyed this project and hope the final year is more like this as I feel I will produce better and work and continue to grow as an illustrator. If I had more time on this project I would perhaps have tried to use the screen printing facilities at the university and will definitely try and get into the print room more often over the next year.
